A novel based on the true story of a Hitler Youth
This is a really good book. The way it's written you can just imagine it all happening and not knowing what comes next. It's about a boy, Helmuth, who dares to speak the truth about the Nazis even though he knows the consequences. For his treason, Helmuth is sentenced at the age of sixteen to death and the loss of his civil rights during the remainder of his life. He dies when he is just seventeen. He manages to keep his friends out of too much trouble. Right before he dies he remembers one happy night long ago. This is a really good book. It describes what life would have been like for people back then.
